Save Africa: Medical and Surgical Mission 2019
Tax deductible
The Save Africa Foundation, founded in 2004 by Dr. Samuel Bada, provides free and open-access life-saving care to the disadvantaged in Africa through the five pillars of our organization.
The Problem
Roughly 1 out of every 4 Ghanaians live in poverty. This unfortunate reality of life for many Ghanaians is further burdened by the threat of disease and lack of access to medical care. In fact, neonatal disease and malaria are the first- and second-largest causes of death in Ghana – and are completely preventable and curable with proper access to medical care.
Who Are We?
The Save Africa foundation (SAF) was founded in 2004 by Dr. Samuel Bada of Jackson, Tennessee. During his numerous visits to Ghana, Dr. Bada identified that there was an urgent need to provide some critical and necessary healthcare services to some of the poorest people within the regions. In the rural areas of Ghana, lack of resources coupled with poverty are barriers to receiving quality healthcare.
Dr. Bada believes that every human deserves the chance to live with dignity and to have timely and accessible medical/surgical care to treatable and preventable conditions. He decided to collaborate with other interested healthcare professionals to provide interventions in a real and meaningful way to people who are unable to afford health care. As a result, over the past fifteen years, members of SAF have been taking medical trips to Ghana in collaboration with the Storehouse for Jesus Foundation providing medical and surgical treatments to those who are in need. In addition, the foundation has been supporting needy students with school expenses and necessities such as clothing and shoes, as well as supporting local organizations with leadership and clinical skills.

Our Mission
To deliver compassionate care with excellence as we provide medical, educational and financial support for the poor and disadvantaged in Ghana.
What Do We Do To Help?
Our Team of Volunteers from the Save Africa Foundation come together from around the globe to bring much-needed health care to the most vulnerable populations in Ghana. Each year four programs are run during our outreach mission: medical, surgical, leadership development, and financial/equipment support. Aside from our annual programs, our academic sponsorship initiative runs continuously throughout the year.
Medical: The medical team provides consultations, medical examinations, and medicine - all free of charge to our patients.

Surgical: Our surgical team is a passionate and dedicated group of surgeons and nurses that work relentlessly to help make our mission a success. They perform many life-saving and free-of-cost surgeries to the rural Ghanaian communities.
Picture 3. Neonatal diseases are the leading cause of death in Ghana, often precipitated by complications from preventable and curable diseases such as uterine fibroids. Pictured above, Dr. Nii-Moi and his surgical team, performing a hysterectomy, one of the many procedures we perform to remove fibroids.
Equipment Support: SAF provides financial as well as material support by donating medical equipment such as stethoscopes, blood pressure machines, and dialysis equipment to local clinics and individuals of need.
Picture 4. Ambulances are a vital piece of medical infrastructure in rural Ghana. Above is an ambulance that our funding provided for the Anum community.
Leadership Development: We support and promote leadership development in the local Ghanaian community. The team equips community-members with vital leadership and healthcare skills. We organize yearly workshops during our outreach programs, with a focus on providing clinical staff in Ghanaian hospitals and clinics with practical knowledge and support systems to unlock their full potential and to drive social change.

Academic Sponsorship: We support disadvantaged children in their academic life. We strive to eradicate street peddling by providing children with some basic materials for life and for keeping them in school. We also identify and help to foster the vital talents in children for the economic and sociocultural development of Ghana and the world at large.

What Can I Do To Help?

Each year we rely on the great help of many volunteers to assist with our outreach programs. Our volunteers support us in assessment, treatment, education and patient counseling. Use of Funding
Last year, we provided 50 surgeries and care to over 350 medicine patients. Due to the high demand for surgeries, we aim to provide 100 in our 2019 mission, as well as medical care to 400 medicine patients. Cost estimates are provided below:
Medical: Medication + lab equipment and supplies + patient wheel-transfer for 400 patients =
$61300.00 USD
Surgical: Medication + lab equipment and supplies + patient wheel-transfer for 100 patients =
$66921.50 USD
Other: Local employee costs (cooks, drivers and support workers) + school supplies + rental (clinic and hospital costs) for 1 week =
$14500.00USD
Total: $142721.50
Why Help Us?
Poverty and preventable/curable diseases are an unfortunate reality of life for many Ghanaians.
- The first- and second-most prevalent causes of death in Ghana are neonatal disease and malaria respectively, both of which are prevented and treated with proper medical care.
- African women are 3 times more likely to develop fibroids than the general population of women, which often precipitates deadly neonatal complications.
- 500,000 people are currently living in the rural areas of Ghana with an inguinal hernia, which is often untreated with deadly consequences.
- Ghana ranks the 6th on the diabetes table in Africa. About 154,790 people are estimated to be living with diabetes in 2016.
