The path forward requires hiring the right professionals to make it happen.

About Alpha Charter
Alpha Charter’s learning model has proven successful, with many students receiving baseball scholarships for college, some students being the first in their families to attend college. Alpha boasts a 100% graduation rate with 90% of our students enrolling and attending post-secondary educational options. Alpha's cultural support, for our student's personal and academic growth, may not be unprecedented, but it is undoubtedly unique. Many of our students have never experienced the support and encouragement that they now receive the moment they arrive on campus. At Alpha Charter, baseball is a passion and students form a small community with a family-like feel. Alpha Charter provides one-on-one attention from faculty, where students work daily progressing through a self-paced, individual learning system called GradPoint. Teachers provide instruction to students through direct instruction, individual instruction, and small group instruction with an emphasis on why and what they are to learn is relevant and pertinent to today’s changing world. Gradpoint curriculum is a-g approved for CSU and UC eligibility.
After lunch, specialty “magnets” begin. Students can participate in magnet programs like baseball, music production, or journalism. The baseball magnet was founded by a local baseball legend and former manager of the Chicago White Sox, Jerry Manuel. Jerry started the Jerry Manuel Foundation (JMF) to focus on African American young men from urban areas. JMF aims to establish clinical school-based programs across the countries in the major MLB cities. By combining education, character development, and training of baseball skills JMF will increase the number of African American men becoming leaders and ignite a newfound passion and commitment to pursuing America’s favorite pastime at all levels. Pro baseball trainers, including Jerry himself, work directly with these young athletes to develop their baseball and life skills.
For students not interested in baseball, Alpha Charter also offers other sports like basketball for both boys and girls, as well as volleyball, soccer, and softball for girls. Alpha Charter’s Young Mogul music magnet was founded by singer-songwriter Hayon, who has a mission to empower the youth of impoverished communities. Through the Young Mogul music magnet, students are trained to produce and market music from start to finish, and, once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, will return to include training in Hayon’s professional music studio.
At Alpha Charter, each student is valued, and teachers and staff work closely with each student to support the student's individual needs and help the student find success in academics and life.
Alpha Charter has been open for 10 years and was growing steadily before the pandemic. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic created budget constraints that led to Elverta Joint Elementary School Board's sudden decision on January 20th, 2022, to close Alpha Charter. The solution is to open an endowment to support the school. Many parents say their students report Alpha Charter being like a second home and a family and have formed a committee to help save the school, saying it’s too precious to let go of. For this reason, parents are working together and starting a new fund to help hire legal and administrative professionals to keep Alpha Charter open and sustain it into the future.
