Save Athena: Surgery and Foster Home Needed
Tax deductible
Athena needs life saving surgery, we are asking for help in funding and a second ask...............
ATHENA URGENTLY needs life saving surgery and cannot have until we find a foster home to recuperate after surgery.
We just learned Athena has a splenic mass which requires urgent removal of her spleen. We need to do before mass ruptures which would be fatal. She cannot have surgery without a home as she needs to recover. SHE CANNOT RETURN TO KENNEL TO RECOVER. This is critically important. We are well aware of the crisis we have been in regarding lack of homes for dogs and cats; we have been rescuing animals for 50 years and we see first-hand how many are dying due to lack of homes. I am begging for someone in either the Long Island or Rochester, NY area to PLEASE OPEN YOUR HEART AND HOME FOR ATHENA to recover after her surgery. We will have to now separate them which is heartbreaking, but Athena can die without this surgery. If we do not find a foster home for Athena, we will need to consider euthanasia as she needs this surgery before the mass ruptures and cannot return to kennel. She is ALWAYS Smiling- look at that smile…..she is such a happy dog but she is breaking down in kennel and now she requires this lifesaving surgery.
We have been posting for a home for Athena and Max, two of our sweetest dogs which we have had in boarding for entirely too long. Their dad died of cancer, and they were sent to a high kill shelter- where Athena developed pneumonia and Max was placed on the euthanasia list because he growled the first day at the shelter- he lost his dad, his home and he was split from his best friend, Athena. We pulled them both and poor Athena was hospitalized for 7 days- when she was healthy enough to travel, we had to send them to boarding as no one stepped up to foster- we have had the posted ever since, and no one has offered to take them. They are so sweet, and so smart and so loving and all they want is a home. They have a wonderful family near the kennel who takes them home for weekends and takes them out on long hikes, but they cannot foster them due to having a highly reactive dog in their home. We never anticipated these dogs to be in a kennel for a long period of time, but they have been. They are not aging well- they are so loved by the kennel staff but we are out of time for Athena…….PLEASE SOMEONE STEP UP. We are responsible for all costs (we are fundraising for assistance with this surgery) associated with the foster.
