Save Bishop McGann Mercy H.S.

The shocking announcement of the closing of Bishop McGann Mercy by the Diocese of Rockville Centre has devastated the Catholic School Community on the East End of Long Island. We, as parents of the school, have started this fund to assist us in taking measures to Save Our School. The funds will be used for marketing, and obtaining the proper consultants necessary to help formulate a plan that will sustain Bishop McGann-Mercy.   The funds will also be used to fill the deficit that we were told it takes to run Bishop McGann Mercy H.S..  We are hopeful to raise way above our goal to show the Diocese that we have many supporters that are willing to keep the school open.  

The Diocese of Rockville Centre does not know us. We are family. WE LIVE MERCY. The alternative given to our children is to travel at least one hour by bus to St. John The Baptist in West Islip isn’t acceptable. These children, most of whom are involved in after school activities and sports would have to begin their day by waking up at 5:15am and end their commute by 7:15pm, to then have to tackle homework. No child should have to endure a 14+ hour school day. This is unacceptable.



Our school is special. Our teachers and faculty are a  family. Their dedication helps to produce scholars . Our current graduating class will be attending schools such as MIT, Skidmore, Northeastern, NYU Stern Business School, Bentley, Villanova,and Fordham to name a few. We cannot let this school close and remove the only possibility of a Secondary Catholic Education on Long Island’s east end. This fund is our chance to start to make a difference.

The portion of the fund, shall it not be used, will be promised to be used towards the needs of Catholic Elementary Education here on Long Island, or in the form of scholarships awarded to students attending Catholic High Schools from our community.

Save Bishop McGann Mercy Foundation will be filing a tax exempt status shortly.  We will update you further as we get more information.
