Save Blackwater River!

We are a grassroots organization. We formed a Florida not for profit corporation Save Blackwater River to battle against a sewer plant and disposal site being constructed on the banks of our Outstanding Florida Waterway (OFW) the Blackwater River. Our river flows through the heart of our town and is the hub of community activities. The City currently dumps 2.5 million gallons a day (yes, a day!!) of wastewater into our river south of town. They are under an order to quit that disposal, so in the infinite wisdom of government, they are proposing to build a new plant and disposal site on a seepage slope six miles upstream (yes, upstream!) Now when something happens, and you know it will, any pollution or contamination will flow all the way through town, past residents and recreation areas. We are considered the canoe capital of Florida and our people swim, boat and fish on our river daily.
Our attorneys and experts are engaging with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to get the permit denied for this wastewater disposal. Please help us pay for our attorneys fees and expert witness fees by donating. We have previously raised almost $30K but that has been expended. We have conducted public workshops to raise awareness, placed signs throughout our community and we participate in multiple forms of public outreach. Public input to FDEP is currently running 99% in our favor in opposition to this plant. To continue in our mission we need funding and we hope you will see fit to help us preserve our river and protect our environment. Thank you.
