# Help Save Bobby - A Rescued Quaker Parrot Who Needs Urgent Veterinary Care.
## Bobby's Story
My name is Bobby. I'm a Quaker parrot who has survived against impossible odds, but now I need your help to finally get the medical care I deserve.
My story began with true horror. After my original owner passed away, I was abandoned in a room, completely alone. My cage was filthy beyond description - I was literally covered in my own waste. I had nothing but two small bowls and a single wooden perch. No toys. No enrichment. No human interaction. Nothing to keep my intelligent mind occupied. In my distress, I began plucking out my own feathers.
I also have a severely deformed leg that causes me pain. I later learned I was nearly euthanized as a baby because the breeder considered me "worthless" due to this deformity.
A neighbor discovered me in these heartbreaking conditions and temporarily rescued me. But when she lost her home and was living in hotels, my situation became dire again. I spent days trapped in the back of a hot SUV in the Florida sun, in the middle of summer, with no air conditioning. Hotel guests complained about my calls for attention, so I was banished to suffer in the heat.
That's when my current human stepped in. From the moment they offered to take me, they had already decided I was staying forever. They would never return me to those terrible conditions. Despite knowing absolutely NOTHING about birds, they made an unwavering commitment to give me the loving home I deserve.
## My Current Situation
My human has gone above and beyond to make my life comfortable. They've custom-built adaptations specifically for me, including a special bed so I don't have to sleep on the cage floor when my one good leg gets tired. They've filled my cage with toys, treats, and enrichment. I have music playing when they briefly leave, and I'm never alone for long. I travel with them throughout the house so I'm always part of the family activity. I've even made friends with the cat!
But despite all this love and attention, I'm still plucking my feathers. At first, everyone thought it was behavioral from my years of neglect, but now my human is worried it might be a skin condition causing itchiness and discomfort. Even more concerning, I occasionally scream suddenly and then bite at my deformed leg. This happens randomly and makes my human wonder if I might be experiencing sharp, unexpected pain in my leg.
My human has spent countless hours researching, watching bird care videos, joining parrot forums, and doing everything possible to learn how to care for me properly. They've become obsessed with giving me the best life possible. But the one thing they cannot do is print money for the expensive veterinary care I desperately need.
## What We Need
I urgently need to see an avian veterinarian who can:
- Examine my deformed leg and address my pain
- Take X-rays to properly assess my condition
- Determine if my feather plucking is from a skin condition that needs treatment
- Determine my age and confirm my gender
- Provide treatment options to improve my quality of life
The avian vet in our area requires nearly $600 just for an initial wellness exam, and that doesn't include the additional costs of X-rays and any treatments I might need.
## Why We Need Your Help
My human saved me from a living nightmare and has given me love, custom accommodations, and constant attention - everything they possibly could. Despite working hard and providing the best home care possible, they are struggling financially, and specialized veterinary care is extremely expensive.
My human doesn't have family or friends who can help financially, so we're turning to the bird-loving community for support. They have never asked for help like this before, but they love me enough to put aside their pride for my well-being.
I've survived abandonment, neglect, and extreme conditions. I'm tough as nails. But now I deserve to live the rest of my life happy and pain-free. I don't want to suffer anymore - no more pain in my leg, no more itchy skin that makes me pull out my feathers. I just want to be comfortable and loved, which I finally am.
Any contribution, no matter how small, will help get me the medical attention I desperately need. My human promises to keep everyone updated with photos and videos of my vet visit and progress, so you can see exactly how your generosity is helping.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. With your help, I can finally get the proper medical care I need and live the happy, healthy life I've fought so hard to have.
# Bobby's Veterinary Cost Breakdown -
I wanted to take a moment to explain our $1,500 fundraising goal and break down the expected costs for Bobby's medical care. Many people have asked about the expenses involved with avian veterinary care, and I want to be completely transparent about where your generous donations will go.
## The Cost of Specialized Avian Care
**Initial Wellness Exam: $600**
The exotic animal clinic that sees avian patients in our area requires this upfront payment for a first-time wellness exam. This is unfortunately standard for specialized avian veterinarians, as they have extensive training and equipment specific to birds.
**X-Rays and Diagnostics: $300-400**
Bobby's deformed leg requires proper imaging to understand the extent of the issue and determine if it's causing him pain. Additionally, testing may be needed to determine if his feather plucking is due to a skin condition or other medical issue.
**Treatment and Medications: $300-400**
Based on what we learn from the exam and diagnostics, Bobby will likely need medications or treatments. This could include pain management for his leg, skin treatments for feather plucking, or other interventions.
**Follow-up Care: $200**
Avian veterinarians typically recommend a follow-up visit to assess how well treatments are working and make adjustments as needed.
## Why This Matters So Much
Every dollar contributed brings Bobby closer to the care he desperately needs. He's already survived so much - abandonment, neglect, and extreme conditions. Now he deserves to live comfortably without pain or discomfort.
I promise to keep everyone updated with photos and videos of Bobby's vet visits and recovery journey. You'll see exactly how your generosity is helping this special little bird who has already overcome so much.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for any help you can provide. Bobby and I are grateful for every share, donation, and kind word.
