Brimfield Lake Association ‘Save our Lake Drive’
When the Brimfield Lake Dam was built in 1981, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) classified the Dam as a Class 4 Dam based on the downstream risk to homeowners in the event of a Dam Breach due to flooding. However, since that time, multiple homes have been built downstream and the ODNR has reclassified the Dam as a Class 1 Dam.
With this change in Classification, we are now required to hire a Professional Engineer (PE) registered with the State of Ohio to create an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) for the Dam in the event of a Dam Breach. To create this EAP, a Professional Surveyor must be hired to Survey the entire downstream Topography and the PE must complete an Inundation Report to determine the water flow in the event of a Breach of the Dam and determine the Emergency Overflow required to prevent loss of life due to a Dam Breach.
The Ohio Attorney General’s Office has informed us that if we do not Create this EAP, the only option that we have left is to drain the Brimfield Lake and demolish the Dam.
If you, like me grew up on this Lake, have kids that have enjoyed or are currently enjoying this Lake, are a member of our community and know what an asset this Lake is to our community and/or are concerned with the countless species of animals that rely on the Lake for their habitat, we could really use your help in raising funds for this EAP.
We have researched the Cost and found that the EAP will cost $15,000 to create and we currently do not have this money to pay for the EAP. Any financial support that you can give will get us that much closer to Saving Our Lake. In addition to your financial support, we would like to ask that you spread the word by e-mail, sharing this on your Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snap Chat, etc.), and/or word of mouth with your family, neighbors, and friends.
This is not an idle threat by the Attorney General’s Office. If this is not done immediately, the Brimfield Lake will cease to exist.
Thank you very much for your support.
