Save Carmen Court from Demolition

Donation protected
Dear Carmen Court Supporter: August 18, 2020 update: The effort to save Carmen Court has moved to City Council. We need your help! Please click here to sign the petition to support the preservation and adaptive reuse of Carmen Court and the designation of the building as a Denver Landmark if necessary to prevent its demolition, as the building can be reused and incorporated into new development while continuing to support the architectural heritage of our city. For more information and details, go to www.savecarmencourt.org Thank you! ------- Too many of our historic buildings in Denver are being torn down only to be replaced by new buildings. We are hoping to save a piece of Denver's history at 900 E. 1st Avenue and keep this charming 1920's Pueblo Revival style structure from being demolished.  Please join me and help to save this beautiful historic structure! You can see an image of the Carmen Court from 1925 here on the Denver Public Library Digital Collection: https://digital.denverlibrary.org/digital/collection/p15330coll22/id/17736/ where it is described as an example of the Pueblo Revival style of architecture designed and built by Burt Rhoads.  A core group of supporters are meeting with the owners/developer to work out a resolution that preserves Carmen Court and the owners’ desire to sell their condos.  Because a resolution has not yet been reached, an application to designate Carmen Court a Denver Landmark was submitted on May 26, 2020.  Your donations paid the $875 filing fee when the nomination was filed! The next step in the process, if no resolution is reached, is the public hearing stage.  The date(s) for hearings have been paused by City Council until after August 2, 2020.  Our thanks go to our Council Representative Jolon Clark for his support. As this process moves forward, we continue to need your help in a couple of ways.  We are assuming we will circulate a petition to support the nomination that we’ll need your signature on as well as your friends and neighbors too.  As an all volunteer group, we continue to need to raise funds to pay for a website and other expenses (printing and postage, etc.), which is why this GoFundMe was created. Thank you for your generousity.  We will keep you posted as we move forward. For more information about landmark preservation in Denver visit http://www.denvergov.org/preservation
