Help Cerritos High School Wrestling Program

Hi, my name is Darlene Boyd (parent of a wrestler). I am starting a gofundme page to help the children of the Cerritos High School Wrestling Program (both girls and boys).

Funds haven't been readily available to take care of things like the wrestling mats. The school district maintains the fields and courts however the wrestling mats are left to the team and our athletes. Our mats are in need of replacement and unfortunately, this is not a priority for our district.

With wrestling comes health and safety concerns. Ringworm is the most common health issue due to the wear and tear over the years on the mats causing bacteria to be trapped. With safety and injury issues, proper wall padding is necessary to avoid conconcussions and other serious injuries, especially with a concrete wall.

If an outbreak occurs, they will temporarily shut down the wrestling program until the problem is resolved. New mats are imperative to wrestling just as new gear is imperative to other sports so children can practice safely.

My husband and I were just going to buy a new mat for CHS Wrestling Program. Unfortunately, due to recent inflation and lack of raw materials available, the cost has more than doubled what it would normally cost.
