Save Chenery Upper Elementary School's Composting Program!

Tax deductible
Belmont Composts!, a project of the Belmont Food Collaborative, is raising money to fund the composting program at the Chenery Upper Elementary School. The school funds that had sustained this robust program since 2017 are no longer available and the program is being suspended midyear.

The CUE is the only school in Belmont that composts cafeteria food waste. The program's success lies in the hard work and dedication of science teacher Ben Ligon and a large team of enthusiastic volunteers, including 260 student Trash Bashers and 22 parents. 7 50-gallon bins of compost are picked up per week.

Compost pickup by Black Earth Compost costs $1064 per 4 weeks. For the remainder of this year we would need to raise 6 x $1,064 = $6,384.

Belmont Composts! is helping the DPW apply for a grant for future academic years. For now, let's keep this successful program going for the rest of the year! Let's not let our students' hard work and enthusiasm for saving the Earth go to waste.

Funds from this fundraiser will be donated to the school district for the purpose of funding Chenery's compost pick-up.
