This is for College Park Yoga – CPY, as we call it. Our beloved College Park Yoga studio is a place we gravitate to when we need peace, light, love and balance. Theresa & Calvin have always taught us about balance. The balance we aim to achieve on our yoga mat and the balance that we take away when we leave our mats. The beauty of balance is giving and receiving, and we see this particular season as one of GIVING – to the place that has taught us how important it is to lift one another up!
-----It will come as no surprise that CPY has experienced one of its toughest years, despite the creative adjustments that T&C made to their studio’s business model over the last 10 months. While we can say it’s nothing short of a miracle that they have made it thru 2020, it has come at a cost. And we must ensure that CPY can sustain what lies around the corner in 2021.
The monetary goal of this fund was established in collaboration with Theresa and Calvin. The amount will allow them to cover the unpaid expenses from 2020, plus provide support for the upcoming months/year which we know will be extremely challenging.
After we told T&C about this fund idea and gained their support of our efforts, we asked them to write something for us to include. Here is what they said:
---The future depends on what we do in the present.
For 20 years, College Park Yoga has served the Orlando area – from training many local teachers and studio owners, to shifting significant community leaders' lives, to creating a supportive and non-judgmental community for our students. Our focus has always been about community and taking care of the community that supports our world.
College Park Yoga grew from a little seed called love. Our love of yoga, how much we benefitted from it, and how much it changed our perspectives, bodies, minds, and lives. Even though we have put so much of our love into CPY and we have spent half of our lives taking care of the space, the students, and the “CPY bubble” – this time around, love just isn't enough to fill the gaps.
When our long-time students heard about the facts of CPY, the realities of this year hit even closer to home for them. The place they go to recharge and revitalize when their nerves are frayed and tired. That place, lovingly called CPY, may not be there in the very near future.
As of Dec. 1st, CPY has lost 75% of its usual support. So the truth is, while we can personally handle life's punches, CPY may not be able to. Something that is grown with love, fueled by love, cannot sustain only through love. Students want us to keep the lights on at CPY, but it's impossible to do so without financial support.
This campaign is a call to you, our yoga family. We ask that you help us preserve CPY's future and guarantee CPY remains here for the next year.
Surviving is the new thriving.
Love, Theresa & Calvin
