Hi, I’m James Harr, founder of Comrade Workwear—a proudly anti-capitalist, socialist art and education brand operating under the First Amendment. Or at least, that’s what I thought.
Recently, I created a deck of “Most Wanted CEO” playing cards—a satirical and educational project highlighting the harmful practices of some of the most powerful corporate executives across industries like pharmaceuticals, tech, and oil. Each card included a QR code linking to detailed breakdowns of their misdeeds. The goal? To educate and entertain, while critiquing the destructive systems of capitalism.
Apparently, exposing the truth was too much for the powers that be. Within days, I became the target of a coordinated campaign of repression and harassment by the NYPD, social media platforms, payment processors, and e-commerce giants like Shopify. My art was labeled “dangerous,” and my business—along with my voice—was silenced.
Here’s how it went down:
- The NYPD showed up at my job to interrogate me about “violence” because they didn’t like my critique of CEOs. Spoiler alert: no one was harmed in the making of these cards.
- Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and other platforms banned me for “community violations” that didn’t exist.
- Shopify, PayPal, Visa, and Mastercard blocked my ability to sell products, branding my business as “damaging.”
- Media outlets like the New York Post painted me as a dangerous extremist for daring to educate people about corporate exploitation.
What started as a project to critique the systems of power has turned into a battle to defend my right to exist as a creator and educator. These entities have coordinated to destroy my business—not because I broke any laws or incited harm, but because I dared to challenge the capitalist status quo.
Why $75,000?
I’m asking for $75,000 because the people I’m fighting—social media giants, payment processors, e-commerce platforms, and law enforcement—have nearly unlimited resources. These corporations and institutions have the best lawyers, deep pockets, and an endless appetite for silencing dissent.
To stand a chance, I need to hire top-tier legal representation—people who can go toe-to-toe with their armies of attorneys. This isn’t just a legal fight; it’s a fight for the rights of small creators, workers, and educators to speak out against systemic exploitation without fear of being silenced.
Transparency and Accountability
I am actively consulting with several attorneys to determine the best legal team to take on this case. However, if I’m unable to find a lawyer willing to take my case, I will refund all donations in full.
While I fully expect to spend more than the $75,000 goal in this legal battle, if any funds remain after covering expenses, I will work with all donors to determine the best place to donate the remaining funds. Your contributions will either directly fund this fight or go toward a cause that aligns with our shared values.
