Save Ebert’s Meats — a Historic Community Staple

On April 4, 2022 the community was shocked to hear that legendary Newport business, Ebert’s Meats, would be closing after 125 years in business. Owners were completely blindsided after receiving a letter from the current landlord’s attorney; the business has two months to completely vacate the property.

 

After news broke, the outpouring of support from the community was overwhelming. Comments were flooded with cherished memories of time spent at Ebert’s Meats, history too precious to lose. It’s clear that this historic business cannot end here. They might be losing their long-time location, but that doesn’t mean Ebert’s Meats can’t live on in a new home.

 

Family friends of the owners, the Steffen’s, have put together this fundraising campaign to help with whatever comes next for them, and the other families directly affected by this unexpected news. Eight weeks is incredibly short notice to move an entire business, much less, one with so much history. Even if a new shop location is found quickly, there’s bound to be a gap between closing at 939 Monmouth St. and opening somewhere new. The families who work at Ebert’s will be financially impacted during this time and hopefully the community can come together to help them.

 

Any funds raised will go directly to the Steffen Family, and those whose livelihoods depend on Ebert’s. They may use the donation to help cover moving expenses, employee salaries, a deposit on a new location, anything they need. We hope that the community can come together to help a family-owned business that has been serving our families for generations.
