Save Ellen and Rob’s house from collapse into Camac River
Donation protected
We are setting up this GoFund me for our wonderful friends Ellen and Rob who have been devastated by the collapse of part of their house. Ellen and Rob's story has been in the media this week and you can read about it here:
Ellen and Rob moved into their home in April 2021 in Inchicore. Soon after, cracks began to appear in the walls of their home and they were advised by their engineer that the house was subsiding. Two engineers surveyed their home before they bought it, but signs of subsidence had been covered up and were not caught by the engineers. Rob and Ellen immediately began engaging with Dublin city council on repair works needed to the river wall and the culvert behind their home. Unfortunately, on Friday 3rd January, part of the Camac river wall collapsed and caused catastrophic damage to their home. Ellen and Rob have had to leave their home because it's no longer safe.
The current situation is that they are now meeting with engineers and speaking to insurers and solicitors. They are looking to find grants or schemes to repair the river wall, but they are going to have to pay to repair their house themselves. They urgently need to prop up the current structure to prevent further damage to their home, and the reality is that this will be an enormous cost. Ellen and Rob do not believe that their insurance company will provide any support, because there was a historic coverup of tilting and cracking by the previous owners, which unfortunately was not picked up on by the engineers. They are still engaging with the OPW and DCC, who have advised that they will begin repair works in the interest of public safety. Rob and Ellen are urging the council to repair the culvert behind Tyrconnell street because it is a huge risk to Inchicore.
Ellen and Rob really appreciate how kind and generous everyone has been with their advice and their good wishes, and they know this is a tough time for everybody, but they are utterly devastated and their house needs to be supported immediately to prevent any more collapse.
We're setting up this GoFund me to get them funds for urgent and immediate repair to their home, to prevent any further damage. If it is the case that any of the work can be funded by grants or legal work then they will not draw down and will refund donations. If you could make any donation it would be so appreciated, we really want to help our wonderful friends and get them safely back in their home.
