Save Erie Shore Drive Families

Donation protected
My name is Melissa Ogden and I am one of the many homeowners on Erie Shore Drive in Chatham Kent.  Some of us are seasonal, some of us full time residents.  Erie Shore Drive is a small community along the shore of Lake Erie. On Feb. 28 the municipality of Chatham Kent declared a state of emergency and we were told we had until March 9 to pack up all our belongings and leave our homes.  Because of high lake levels and flooding on Erie Shore Drive, engineers are concerned the road is in jeopardy of breaching.  The municipality is closing the road indefinitely.   We now have no road access to our homes - potentially forever.   People are filing for bankruptcy; families are now homeless; our investments and life savings have been rendered worthless.  The municipality is offering no compensation. The road will be turned into a cement and clay burm to stop the water from crossing the road to protect the road and the adjacent farmland.   The properties will be subjected to flooding and we will not be there to mitigate damage and protect our homes.  For decades, we have spent thousands of dollars protecting the shoreline and our investments. We are tax payers.  And now we feel our municipality is abandoning us. We have tried to work with the municipality on alternate solutions, to no avail.  We have reached out to higher levels of government.  No help.  This should not be allowed to happen Canada.  Unfortunately, we had to obtain legal council.  We are asking for any donation you can give to  help us.  All donations will be going toward our legal fees as we fight this injustice.  Thank you.
