Save Farnsworth Rose Garden

Hi, my name is Wilton and I am a multi-instrumentalist musician and nonbinary handyman in El Sereno. I have lived on Farnsworth in a house with rent control in the suburbs for 14 years and I am being threatened by the new landlord.

Over the years, I've hosted numerous local acts with live events as well as private recording sessions. I have a rose garden and large backyard that I have tended to relentlessly. There was even a beautiful wedding in the backyard in 2022. This house has been a safe haven for me and a creative space visited by upcoming stars including MRK, Peter Kalisch, Voice on Tape, LA Drones, Clark and the Himselfs, Nai Izumi, and many more.

I have outlasted 4 different owners trying to take away my rent controlled affordable housing. These current landlords have been harassing me and intimidating me and trying to take away important amenities, and now they want to remove me without justification and turn my music studio into an ADU. They also want to take away my secure parking. I have been a respectful tenant and always paid rent on time, and I have been trying to negotiate with the landlords in good faith – but instead of negotiating they decided to post an eviction notice on 02-26-24.

That said, I am not going down without a fight. I am asking for $10k to hire a lawyer on retainer, cover court fees, and any contingencies such as having to take off work for this battle. My goal is to negotiate, stay on the property, and keep my amenities intact. If I fail and have to move, any leftover funds will be used for relocation, but I believe I will succeed with your help.
