Urgent: Fennel's Cremation Services
UPDATE December 4th, 2024 @ 8am pacific time Fennel crossed the rainbow bridge. She is with her parents, and sister now. She is no longer suffering, and for that I am grateful.
We do not have a yard to bury her in so we are hoping to raise the funds for cremation services. Thank you
On August 7th, 2020 our guinea pig Angelica welcomed her second (and final) litter of babies into the world. Three girls, and one boy. Fennel, Ginger, Nutmeg, and Paprika (boy). All four were healthy, and grew up well. Nutmeg, sadly, passed of a sudden and intense respiratory infection in December 2023. Her sisters, and brother are still with us though. While their parents have passed away (Angelica of The strangles in March 2022, and Cinnamon of cancer in January 2024) they have all been happy and healthy since birth.
Fennel, however, has become ill as of late. We noticed her weight steadily going down over the past few months. Then a couple weeks ago we noticed blood on her cage liner, and immediately got her to the vet where they found a bladder stone blocking her urethra. (see x-ray photo, and photo of the stone) the vet was able to remove the stone, thankfully. As such we were able to take our girl home with meds, and strict diet care instructions until her follow-up appointment which is scheduled for November 14th.
The weightloss issue requires blood work to be done to find out what's going on. We have the money for her upcoming follow-up visit, but we do not have the funds to pay for her blood work. We are asking for your help now, because we love our girl. We don't want to lose her at such a young age. Losing her sister, and her parents was so painful. Fennel has struggled with weight in the past. We had to separate her from her sisters for a while after they were separated from their mother at the age of 8 weeks.
She was underweight, and so having her alone meant she could eat without having to fend off her sisters. Not that they ever really fight over food, but having her alone just made it easier for her to eat enough. After a few months she finally was up to weight, and we were able to reunite her with her sisters as well as the two cage mates (Licorice, and Peppermint) we had housed them with.
Until earlier this year Fennel had maintained her weight between 1170-1250 grams. We weight them every day to ensure they are healthy, and to catch any strange weightloss/gain that may occur. We have been talking with the vet since the weightloss began, and it has now reached a point where she is about to enter dangerous territory. Fennel is an Abyssinian guinea pig. Abyssinian females usually weight between 800 and 1100 grams at full size. As of today Fennel has dropped from the low 1200s to the high 800s which concerns my vet a great deal.
So we are hoping to raise $550. Where will this money go?
Some will cover fees taken out by GoFundMe. The rest will go to:
Emergency Vet Visit fee (we will take her in the instant we have the funds so it will be considered an emergency visit) - $97
Bloodwork - $330
Remaining funds will be used to cover any medications she may need. Please help us find out what is wrong with our baby girl, and hopefully save her before it's too late. (If, gods forbid, the worst happens, and she passes before we can use the funds or raise the full amount the money will be used to pay for her necropsy and cremation which (together) runs $400).
