Save Gear and Help Bring Him Home

Hi, my name is Katie. When I was 14 years old, we had a gorgeous 2 year old pacer named Tribute To Gear in the barn. He qualified later in the year (2010) and took a few starts to blossom, but he soon figured it all out and won two races back to back in 1:52. His owners were ecstatic, as were we. Fast forward to his 3 year old season, he had his issues but he still tried his best, pacing in 51/52 many times. The more he raced, the more his lameness came through. His owners eventually wanted rid of him because he wasn’t going to be the star they thought, so my family purchased him because we all loved him. He raced his 4 year old season, but no vet could determine what was causing his lameness. We eventually made the decision to retire him and found him a lovely home. Fast forward to today, and I just got word he’s been found in a kill pen in Texas, to be shipped in less than a week for slaughter in Mexico. How anyone could look at his face and think he’s not worth living is beyond me, so that’s why I’m here to raise money to save his life and start him on a path to his real forever home. I am working with friends and rescues to save him, but unfortunately these dealers know we will try to save them, so they have made his price a ridiculously high $1250USD. He will also need quarantine once he’s saved, and then shipping fees to wherever we can get him to. I’m doing all I can for him, but I am graciously asking for all and any help I can get, big or small. Please help me save the absolute kindest soul I’ve ever met.
