Save George From Going Blind
Tax deductible
George is a two-year-old standard poodle who was relinquished to Juneau Animal Rescue in April due to his reactivity to the small children in the home because he was going blind. George was diagnosed with Juvenile Cataracts, a progressive clouding in the lens of the eye, the structure that helps us focus on objects. When the normally clear lens gets cloudy, vision gets obscured. As many of you know, vision in animals is extremely important. If an animal cannot see what is around them, it may react unpredictably out of fear. Cataracts are not painful, but they can sometimes lead to other diseases of the eye, such as glaucoma, which can be very painful and would need to be treated. If George has the proper surgery to save his eyesight, he will be able to see his surroundings and feel safer and calmer. This will also make him a more ideal companion. He's spent over three months in the shelter, and it is time for George to find his forever home.
I recently went through cataract surgery, and it was life-changing! My goal is to help George receive the proper veterinary care so that he can live out his best life and find a forever home. I took George on a walk, and he is a very good boy. He receives affection willingly and loves adventuring on trails. I know many folks in Juneau have been following his situation at JAR and have been sharing pictures of him in hopes of finding a forever home and a family that could afford his surgery. This GoFundMe is set for funds to directly go to Juneau Animal Rescue to support George's surgery. Any additional funds raised will go into JAR's Second Chances Fund, which provides surgeries and medical care to animals in the shelter who need more involved medical care.
Unfortunately, at this time cataract surgeries for animals are not available in Juneau. Juneau Animal Rescue has been working with a veterinarian in Palmer, Alaska, who can do this type of surgery for George. The cost of the surgery, as well as airfare, looks to be around $6.500. They are also looking for a possible foster family in the Palmer area for George for a week as he will need a return visit to the vet after his surgery. (Spread the word!)
I would adopt George myself if I could! He's a gorgeous and sweet boy who deserves a loving family. My own home is full with two standard poodles and four cats (plus, many of you know I foster kittens for JAR.) My goal with this GoFundME is to get George the medical care he needs and to get him out of the shelter and into his forever family.
Any amount is welcome. Whether you can afford $5 or $500, all of it will go directly to Juneau Animal Rescue, as I set up funds to go directly to their organization. I also have their permission and support for this endeavor. If you have any questions about this fundraiser, feel free to call JAR directly for more information or to confirm legitimacy.
