Help us Save Hinton Bay!
We are raising money to help stop the spread of EWM or Eurasian Water Milfoil in Hinton Bay.
The last 2 summers per guidance from the DNR we have moved away from herbicide treatment and have only used DASH or Diver Assisted Suction Harvesting as our treatment method in Hinton Bay. While DASH remains a successful treatment method in many instances, we have found that it has not helped stop the spread of EWM in Hinton Bay. This was confirmed Saturday June 22nd with a tour of the entire lakeshore of Hinton Bay by Jim Kron (board member), Jim Nancekivell (former board member, Hinton Bay resident), David Rutt (Hinton Bay resident), and Sara Hatleli (RLPOA consultant).
In light of what we found and the severity of the spread of EWM in Hinton Bay this year, DASH that was schedule for the week of June 24th – 28th was postponed/cancelled. The DNR has agreed that DASH is not the answer for all or most of Hinton Bay and is open to herbicide treatment in 2019. However, time is of the essence as the DNR does not like herbicide treatment when the water gets too warm. That being said the RLPOA board and Sara are working with the DNR to pull a proposal together for this new treatment plan. The DNR has stated that resident support for chemical treatment is taken into account when determining whether or not to approve a treatment permit.
Here’s how you can help:
As a concerned property owner and lover of the lake I’ve set up a Go Fund Me to help raise additional funds that can be used to help directly with the costs associated with herbicide treatment in Hinton Bay. Not only will your donations be tax deductible because the RLPOA is a registered 501 (c)(3) charitable organization but it will show resident support for the immediate chemical treatment of Hinton Bay. As a member of RLPOA and contributor to EWM efforts by our association this is not meant to replace those efforts but instead augment them and help support necessary immediate action in Hinton Bay.
Thank you!
