At the northern end of Colorado's pristine San Luis Valley lies a little gem of a town called Saguache. At its center, brimming with character and history, is the Saguache Hotel.
For the better part of a century the hotel was a cornerstone of the valley - a bustling hub for travelers and locals alike, but the years have not been kind to her. For several decades the hotel sat nearly dormant, slowly deteriorating - cracking, peeling, and crumbling. Its demise would be devastating to the community and a loss to Colorado, both historically and economically.
Looking beyond the general state of disrepair and dilapidation, the hotel is nothing short of captivating. In my heart of hearts I believe, with your help, that once again it could become a unique and charming place to relax, enjoy live music, explore the great outdoors, immerse yourself in history, and indulge in all that colorful Colorado has to offer.
**I am, with YOUR help and the help of the State, taking on the responsibility and honor of bringing this wonderful hotel back from the brink of extinction.
For most of my adult life I've been lucky enough to make a living as a musician, but in between festival gigs, tours, and cruise ship contracts, I invested my time and money renovating rental properties in Nashville, Tenn. One of my recent renovation projects was the original home of country singer Loretta Lynn. When I discovered the Saguache Hotel last fall, I fell in love with the building, and the town. I've been all over the world as a performer, but something about returning to my small-town roots (I grew up in Carbondale, CO and La Veta, CO) really struck a chord (so to speak) with me. I sold my rental properties in Nashville in order to purchase the hotel.
Through a partnership with Colorado Preservation Inc (501(c)3), I received a grant from History Colorado and the State Historical Fund . The grant will cover half the cost of the most vital repairs, including replacement of the roof, soffits, and gutters, and to address several structural issues within the building. The grant requires a 1 to 1 match, so we need to raise $80,000 this fall. Repairs begin in mid-October, 2020.
The immense potential of the Saguache Hotel is incredibly exciting, and I know that together WE can make the hotel an asset to this community and to Colorado once again. I hope you will consider joining on this journey. Your support would mean the world for this project!
All my best,
Andy

By choosing to fund this project, you are playing a VITAL role in:
1) Preserving an important HISTORICAL building in Colorado
2) Stimulating much-needed ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT and job creation in one of Colorado's poorest counties
3) Creating an indoor/outdoor LIVE MUSIC VENUE to bring entertainment and culture to this rural area, and help provide income for local and touring performers
4) Promoting a renovation project that will incorporate low-impact, SUSTAINABLE ENERGY PRACTICES, including solar (passive and active) and super-efficient radiant heat (masonry heaters)
5) Potentially providing LONG-TERM HOUSING for an area that desperately lacks residential rentals
6) Ensuring that Andy will still be playing 'Sweet Caroline' to drunk people when he's 90 years old ;-)
