Hi! My Name is Hollie Sherwood. I am fundraising for Independent Records

45 years this month Independent records began its journey here in Colorado Springs! Throughout the years each store came with its own charm & became like a 2nd home to many. As each entity closed-it broke part of our hearts to say goodbye.

Then, after the pandemic, as many small business suffered the same fate-we could not sustain. The remaining stores closed & merged into one location as we tried to keep this icon alive.

But we never got back to where we were before the pandemic. The owner, Orville Lambert, is dealing with serious health problems & is currently in the hospital. He needs to retire & focus on healing. He was hoping to have sold the business as he knows in his heart it could continue on with funding we currently do not have. His wish is to keep its long legacy alive!

However, on Friday July 28th-- it was announced that the store was closing for good. And the last remaining independent records was to be no more.

Upon learning this news the community along with the staff became devastated.

The outpouring of of love & support during this time has touched our hearts greatly! To have many of you share your stories (accompanied with tears) of what Independent Records has meant to you over the years-has moved us all!

"This cannot be true! Please make it not so!" "We will rally with you" you all exclaimed! "We will help you"-to which suggestions & strong encouragements of fundraising options were expressed.

We could not ignore your tears & turn our back on you!

I, we, none of us can imagine the community of Colorado Springs without this icon here! It has been a staple for 45yrs! It's an established & loved institution. When a place means this much to so many…it is hard not to try and recover it for everyone!!

Our city will be empty without it!

Our lives will be empty without it!

Our hearts will be empty without it!

In a world that is moving fast---eager to replace soulful creative art with superficial things---we do not want that to be our fate.
