One of New York's most beloved theatrical institutions, and a vital home base for inclusive programming and diverse voices, is in danger of becoming another casualty of the pandemic. LAByrinth Theater Company needs your help!

Chances are if you've had anything to do with New York theater in the last 30 years, you know LAB. Maybe you waited in a line that stretched around the block to see JESUS HOPPED THE A TRAIN twenty years ago, or called in a favor to try and snag a ticket to their recent co-production with Atlantic Theater Company of HALFWAY BITCHES GO STRAIGHT TO HEAVEN (both by LAByrinth member and Pulitzer winner Stephen Adly Guirgis).  Maybe you associate the company with Philip Seymour Hoffman, where he began his directing career and was co-Artistic Director. Whatever your association with the company, LAByrinth has been an influential force off-Broadway for nearly three decades.

LAB has also been at the forefront of fighting to make Off-Broadway more diverse since the company's inception. Founded as the Latino Actors Base, LAB represents stories that aren’t represented on other stages.  That representation is at risk of disappearing if we don’t step in to help LAByrinth today.

LAByrinth was two weeks into rehearsal last March for their world premiere production of Guadalís Del Carmen’s BEES AND HONEY, when Corona forced them to shut down.  Design plans were halted.  Actors were sent home, unsure of when they’d return to rehearsal, or when they’d work again.  BEES AND HONEY is an intimate tale of a young Dominican couple living in Washington Heights.  We need stories like these now more than ever, which is why we need LAByrinth!

The financial impact of the shutdown was felt immediately by LAB. They had spent $30,000 on the show, and overnight, their $50,000 in projected ticket sales evaporated.  As a small non-profit that lives on the edge and relies on ticket sales, these were staggering losses.

Me, Michael, and Tim are asking our fabulous community to join us once again to save a venerable NYC arts organization by donating and/or sharing this campaign far and wide.

LAByrinth has been a fixture on the New York theater scene for decades. Your support today is vital in their efforts to continue their work, while providing a home for their 115 member-artists, their larger theater community, and their devoted audiences. Theater is coming back!  Let’s make sure LAB comes back with it. New York theater wouldn’t be the same without them.
