Save Lae Play School!

Donation protected
Lae Play School is a primary school supplying education to children ages 2-7 in Lae, Papua New Guinea's second-largest city, and also serves as a refuge for women who are fleeing from domestic violence. And it desperately needs your help.

Shortly after the school moved to new premises in February, the city of Lae was devastated by a massive tropical storm that caused catastrophic flooding in the city, and destroyed 95% of the school's teaching aids (blocks and notebooks and dress-ups), all of the specially-designed mid-sized furniture, and all of their blankets, pillows and mattresses.

The school's Principal, Aunty Ella, has been able to replace some of what was destroyed but there is a way to go, and supplies are impossible to source locally, driving costs higher. Moreover, the unexpected loss of funds has meant that rent, electricity and wages will soon become unaffordable without outside help.

Rent is particularly urgent as it is only paid up til the end of November.

I'm hosting this fundraiser in solidarity with those affected by the worsening climate crisis, as a passionate advocate for access to education, and by way of my personal connection with Aunty Ella as a close friend of my partner's. I will be disbursing any donated funds directly to the school.

Please share and donate if you are able.
