Save Lake Tamarisk

Donation protected
Help us save the Lake Tamarisk Oasis Community, near Desert Center, California. We are located at the base of Joshua Tree National Park and surrounded by multiple Mountain Wilderness Areas. The proposed Chuckwalla National Monument is literally across the road from our community.

We have already experienced the installation of 18,000 acres of Utility Scale Solar Installations, with another 8,000 acres in the permitting process. These landscape solar projects are located between 25 feet to ½ mile from our community. If the next two projects are allowed to go forward as planned, we will be surrounded on 3 sides at these close distances. We want to remain an Oasis Community in a Natural Desert Environment.

We are not opposed to renewable energy, but communities like ours and others across the nation need a buffer zone to protect us from the solar panels, and a comprehensive plan for water and dust management.

All funds raised are going to the Active Community Desert Center, a registered unincorporated association in the state of California. Don Sneddon is the agent of record for the association.

Several reporters and newspapers have written articles about the tremendous amount of Utility Scale Solar in the last few years in California focusing on our valley as the epicenter of that growth. It is critical that we address this invasion to protect our community. Some of these articles can be found in the following publications:
• The Guardian
• Epoch Times
• The Desert Sun
• Coachella Valley Independent News
• Insider Climate
• Washington Free Beacon
• Basin & Range Watch
• Bloomberg Group

We have been working intensely for the last 16 months with Riverside County and the BLM to prevent becoming a dead sea of solar panels. To ensure that our voices and concerns continue to be heard, the next step requires that we enlist legal representation. After a lengthy search, we have hired an experienced Environmental Law Firm. The lead attorney is Frank Angel of Angel Law in Santa Monica, CA.

Mr. Angel has agreed to a reduced fee since our Solar Committee has done a lot of the initial work already. He has given us a proposal that will not exceed $20,000, and he will be ready to fight the battle at every upcoming stage of the review / scoping process.

Whereas just a few of us would not be able to afford the cost, as a group we can reach our funding goals. Because we are a small community, we are hopeful that others will sympathize with our plight and assist in helping to keep government agencies under control when it comes to a direct negative impact on an entire community.

Please share this Go Fund Me page with your social media outlets. We are one of the first communities having to fight large industrial solar companies from ruining their community. However, it is going to be more common across the nation as renewable energy looks for land to place these large solar farms.

Thank you for helping,

We are experiencing increased dust storms, caused by the ravaging of our desert landscape during the construction of the most recent solar installations. This intense dust is a serious threat to the health of residents in our community.

This is just one of the new solar installations. You can see there is nothing left of the desert landscape. Just acres of loose sand.
