Save Larry's Home from Tax Sale & Repair It!

Hello!

I am Larry Shell, and I have had a rough time over the past few years. I had really hoped to work to fix some of my problems, but this has proven to be an exceptionally hard year for my brother and I, medically and financially.

We’ve had great difficulty living on our Social Security checks (our sole income) and some weeks do not have enough to buy groceries. We are periodically harassed by the town we live in due to the condition of our house, which I was ordered to appear in court about mid-year and fined for multiple violations. In addition, Hurricane Ida flooded our basement, causing the need to replace several expensive appliances, including the water heater which I am still paying off.

I badly need to raise funds of $6,200 to pay my overdue 2023 property taxes before our house is put up for tax sale by the town that I reside in. I have received notification of this from the tax office.

Any additional funds beyond that will go towards 2024 property taxes and to do at least some of the home repairs needed to keep the township placated and off my back to avoid more fines.

In addition, I urgently need to tear down our garage which is leaning precariously over the driveway and I do not have the funds to do so!

To do so, I have started this Go Fund Me campaign.

We need to pay the amount due for the property taxes in full before November 11 or I and my brother, who lives with me, may not have a place to live.

Our financial situation is exacerbated by health issues we have been dealing with over the past ten+ years. We are both disabled seniors, I have spinal problems, diabetes, mild ADHD, glaucoma, migraines, high blood pressure and have had two spinal surgeries in the past ten years. My brother suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes and other ailments. He also suffered a small stroke a year ago.

For those who do not know me, I have been in and around the comic book business since the 1970s. I was a publisher and editor of several titles, wrote a story for Heavy Metal magazine, published some trading card sets and was the Director of Publications for Heroes World Distribution for ten years, including the last two years as part of the Marvel Comics’ Marketing department. I have also worked as a publishing consultant and a rep for a number of artists and collectors for original art sales until my health problems made it difficult to continue.

My brother worked for an auto parts distributor for over 30 years and is now retired with numerous physical ailments.

I am a big fan of comics and now need a hero.
