Much of Washington's agritourism industry will be sidelined this year under COVID-19 rules released Thursday by Gov. Jay Inslee. Visitors can't pet or view animals. And hay rides are out, as are games and touching farm equipment. Any farm that breaks a rule can be fined $10,000. This news is detrimental to farmers across the state, specifically, Leavenworth Reindeer Farm. We rely on ticket sales for our outdoor, educational farm tours to help cover costs of farm labor, feed & supplies, veterinary care and more. NEW RESTRICTIONS ON AGROTOURISM
Now, more than ever, families need safe places to spend time together. What better place than outdoors on the farm? Prior to this new mandate, our farm had thoughtfully put together safety measures with our visitor's health in mind, which included 25% capacity, 6 foot social distancing, hand sanitizing and masking.
Since 2016, our 3 generation family farm has welcomed visitors from all across the world to share in the magic of reindeer. Our goal is education that will lead to the conservation of this incredible species, whose dwindling population is now protected in the lower 48. Reindeer, the friendly subspecies of Caribou, have been domesticated for centuries and rely on our care. We take pride in providing a home for these amazing animals, and consider them part of our family.
We are typically open to the public, year-round, and have always booked our tours by appointment only, with limited group sizes for a more personal experience. If you have visited our farm and are able to help support us during these difficult times, there are a few ways you can help: Donation via GoFundMe, purchase tickets to a farm tour (if the farm is not able to open for the date you select, a credit will be held in your name that will never expire), purchase a GiftCard via our website, and look for our online gift shop coming soon!
