Dear friends,

Since this unique sanctuary was founded, we have been so grateful to you and all our fans and supporters. Our founder, Gary Sigler, purchased this property with the express purpose of creating an animal sanctuary. Since 2017, this vision has come to fruition and grown to serve hundreds of animals, placing most in forever homes, offering refuge and safety for others, and saving many destined for euthanasia. We currently are home to 36 senior and special needs dogs, 15 cats, 10 kittens, 3 pigs, 2 goats, an urban rooster, and rehabilitated wildlife. Since Gary’s passing, the sanctuary’s future has become unsettled. He had told our executive director and board members that our organization could continue operation on the site and merely take over the payments for the average balance of the mortgage (around $80,000) in the event of his death. However, Gary did not have a will or a transfer on death deed or anything in writing at the time of his sad passing. This has left us dealing with a small group of heirs who are not direct descendants. Most have visited the sanctuary and expressed their wish for Gary’s vision and the sanctuary’s mission to continue. However, not all the heirs have agreed to donate their share of the equity in the property. This would require the property to be sold at market value; it has appraised at $206,000.
To continue our mission of serving our senior and special needs animals, we have 3 options:
1. To stay where we are:

a. Best Case Scenario: we find a guarantor to help us secure a loan to pay off the current mortgage plus buy out the one heir; this option costs about 105,000.

b. Second Best Case Scenario: we find a friendly landlord to purchase and
rent us the property; the cost of this option is $206,000.

2. The property sells to someone else, and we move the sanctuary. We would need
to find a friendly landlord to purchase and rent us property OR someone with
land who is willing to rent us space. Costs depend on what’s available.

3. The property sells to someone else, and we move our operations to foster
homes. This would result in some of our sanctuary citizens being tragically euthanized
.
We have a few individuals who are completely un-fosterable and unadoptable, with nowhere else to go.

Please get in touch with us! Your support, ideas, and input are welcomed and needed as we navigate this
critical time in our efforts to continue to exist and provide sanctuary for the neediest animals.
Thank you so very much from the board of directors of Liberty Acres and all the animals!
