Save Lives: Journalist's Fight for His Children.

Hi, my name is Aziz Afifi, I am a photojournalist, a father to four

children, and a community organiser from Noth Gaza. I write to you with a

heavy heart, from the tent city in Rafah, asking for your help as I strive

to keep my children fed and sheltered during an ongoing genocide, and

rebuild my home, which has been destroyed, when this nightmare subsides.

I am currently separated from my children: my two oldest daughters Yumna

(12) and Yara (10) managed to meet in Rafah, after months of displacement

from the North to Rafah, through the mid district. However, they have not

been staying with me for their own safety, given the risks involved with

being a journalist in Gaza. My youngest Maher (5) and Maria (4), whom I

haven't seen since Oct 6, are still in Northern Gaza with their mother,

where over 350,000 people are experiencing true famine as of early May 2024, according to the World Food Program.

The genocide in Gaza still rages and each day brings with it a new wave of

terror and uncertainty. The relentless attacks on the defenceless civilian

population and infrastructure have choked the life out of our once-thriving

community, killed our families and friends, destroyed our homes, and left us

with nothing. With the destruction of my home, I lost my most precious

souvenirs from the time my children were born and grew up, but our faith in

Allah's grace is great and so is our belief in the goodness and goodwill of

people around the world, both carrying us through this fight, day after day.

I am asking you to help me support my children as the cost of

life-sustaining necessities like food, water and shelter in Gaza have now

reached over 5 times their original price. In return, as a dedicated

journalist who has worked through multiple wars over my 17-year career, I

can offer you a view of the truth through my camera lens, to show you the

reality of life in Gaza.
