Save Live Stand-Up
For 36 years the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase has been bringing live stand up comedy to Ann Arbor and the surrounding areas.
The History:
In 1984, We were known as the Mainstreet Comedy Showcase above the Heidelberg. In 1987, the Mainstreet Comedy Showcase moved to Liberty, below the well known Seva Restaurant. In January 2001, we adapted our new name... The Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase. By 2014, we moved to our current location on S Fourth Ave next to Banditos.
For over 3 decades we have watched Ann Arbor grow. Facing and over coming many challenges.
In 2014, A magnitude of delays in construction, took a blow to our audiences but we continued to persevere. Providing some of the best rising talent the Tri-state area has to offer. A place for dreams to become a reality. A community of talent and those passionate and enthusiastic about keeping LIVE stand up venues alive.
Today:
We were one of the first Comedy Clubs to open in the state and are now 1 of 3 or 4 left. As everything has moved to Netflix and Hulu.
On March 14th 2020, we closed our doors to ensure the publics safety during the CoVID-19 pandemic.
11 months later, our doors are still closed. We plan to open once again Feb 5th and 6th, and hope they stay open. But with things so unsure, and constantly changing... we may have to close them again... forcing us to close up shop, for good.
I have created this GoFund me to help keep Live Stand up Comedy alive in Ann Arbor. Through my time employed at AACS, I have seen so many comics and customers who are truly passionate about the venue and services we provide. In our slogan, we say "Laughter is the Best Medicine", and I believe that to be true. The atmosphere in our showroom is of sheer joy. Laughter, happiness, excitement. From the encouragement and community love and support on Open Mic Comedy Jamm, to proposals, mentorship and belly laughs on Headlining weekends. We have seen so many stories of love, laughter and triumph.
I have watched our club fight to survive through so many battles, and would be heart broken to see a public safety measure take us out. We are now asking for your help in keeping our doors open.
With Ann Arbor rent prices skyrocketing, we are asking to raise $25k to ensure our most basic essentials are met (Rent, Electricity, Heat) and that our staff (waitstaff and comics) can be paid.
If you support Live Comedy, a dream, a small local business, I ask if you have it, to please donate or attend one of our shows to support comedy in person.
