SAVE LONDON GYMS

Saving Park View Health Clubs,
My name is Denisa, you've probably seen me in one of our three gyms, I’m usually really camera shy and if you know me personally you know I would not be the one doing this today if it wasn't important.
I'm coming here today because I wanted to talk about something that's really important, something thats been a part of my life for the past 3 years and something that I couldn't live without and that is this, that's you guys our members, that's our community thats our gyms, thats park view health clubs.
I remember when I used to be a member here, now almost 3 years ago, I had never been to a gym that felt so welcoming and friendly and a gym that felt like home. Before I worked here I used to be here every day, not just for the training as most of you will know but for the vibe and the community feel I felt every time I walked through those doors. I worked here before I actually worked here/ Park view is a gym like no other, those of you that have been with us a long time know and understand this.
Now I work here, I was probably here too much that Rama and Reza were like we should just hire her so she can leave, I think it got to the point where every single member knew who I was hahaha.
Park View is more than a gym, we are a support system for our local community, many of you may not know this, but our owners Rama and Reza grew up around Colindale which is where our third branch is located. They wanted so badly to open a gym in the area they grew up in, in order to give back to you guys. They believe that fitness for us is accessible for all.
When you walk through our doors you are greeted with a smile which is unique to us, we care about our members so much, a lot of you I have grown to call my friends. It's not just you that needs our gym, everyday the gym is closed my colleagues suffer, the personal trainers that work for park view are unable to work when the gyms are closed, these people are members of your community and people you see everyday sometimes even more than your family. I know that's the case for me.
So you should care about your local independent businesses as they provide you services that no big cooperation can. We are the heart and soul of the community and fitness is not just for physical wellbeing, it is mental too. Unfortunately we have received no support from the government and do not qualify for any of the grants and loans. We have frozen everyone's gym membership because we care and we understand that this is a difficult time for everyone, however the bills and direct debits have not stopped for us. Landlords don’t care whether we’re open or shut, they still expect their rent at the end of the month, with no other income we are struggling to pay the rent and with three gyms to support we are unsure if we can survive this without your help.
For all of you that know me or know Rama or Reza or anyone one else that works for Park View you will know how much time and effort and soul we put into our gyms, and into our members. We support every person as if they were our own family and I guarantee that you will never get this anywhere else. Rama and Reza built these gyms from nothing, just hard work and determination, they have never asked anyone for anything believe me I know so this lockdown is so hard as the longer we stay closed the more it destroys all the years of hard work they have done to get where they are now. Their work ethic and positivity inspire me on a daily basis so I encourage all of you to support as many small businesses as you can. We cannot survive without your help.
I feel so lucky to be a part of this brand and business and to work under such incredible people that have taught me so much and continue to support and advise me every single day. So I want to take this opportunity to thank Rama and Reza for everything that they do and everything that they have done. Many of you would not be who you are today if it wasn't for their help, guidance and support so because of them I ask you to dig deep and donate whatever you can to help keep this amazing thing that I call home going. We couldn't do this without you.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything, I promise you it will be reciprocated ten fold.
We must respect the second lockdown although we are financially suffering now. We only survived the last one because of our amazing members and community. Thank you again.
We however feel all gym’s should be open and be supported in fighting against COVID, obesity, mental health and many other conditions and diseases. So let’s look at the facts and evidence that has lead us to this decision and what the Government should be looking at:
UKActive published this study - https://www.ukactive.com/news/fitness-and-leisure-sector-reports-covid-rate-of-0-34-per-100000-visits-since-reopening-in-england/
• 22,000,000 (22 million) gym visits resulted in a mere 78 Covid cases
• Uk gyms showing just 0.35 cases per 100,000 visits
Then we have the latest (unpublished study) since the increase in positive tests https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-54464470
• Gyms are still only showing 1.7% percent of cases, but they want to close us and keep restaurants open which have a higher rate of 9.6% cases, which is still CRAZY LOW so these should also stay open.
Mental health - the gym helps so many people with their mental health daily.
• Male suicide is now at an all time high - https://www.bmj.com/content/370/bmj.m3431
Data published by the Office for National Statistics on 1 September showed that in 2019 the suicide rate among men and boys was 16.9 deaths per 100 000, the highest since 2000 and slightly above the 2018 rate of 16.2 per 100 000. The suicide rate among women and girls was 5.3 deaths per 100 000 in 2019, up from 5.0 per 100 000 in 2018 and the highest since 2004.
Overall, 5691 suicides (4303 in men and boys) were registered in England and Wales in 2019, giving an age standardised rate of 11 deaths per 100 000 people. A total of 5420 were registered in 2018 (10.5 per 100 000).
