The Macon County News has faithfully served Macon and surrounding counties for nearly 40 years. Betsey and Gary Gooder took on a monumental task when starting the Macon County News, a small, independent newspaper. Over the last 4 decades MCN has served the community by being the "go-to" paper for all things local. From never charging to run obituaries, to always covering graduates of all high school, Macon County News focuses on community awareness and support as much being the most reliable source for breaking news. Now, after nearly 40 years of serving the community, Macon County needs your help. Like so many rural newspapers across the country, the cost of doing business continues to rise. Print costs were abruptly increased, which sent the newspaper into a unintended spiral. Betsey has agreed to keep the paper open for a little longer while we diligently search for new printers and a more cost effective means of getting the newspaper to stands. But in the meantime, we need your help. We are dedicated to keeping the newspaper on stands, with some employees volunteering to work for free while we figure out how to address the printing costs and issues.

Macon News has 6 full-time employees and 4 contract employees who work tirelessly each week. Please help try to save their jobs and to preserve this piece of Macon County History.

ALL funds raised during this campaign will go DIRECTLY to Betsey Gooder, who will use the funds as she sees fit to help keep the newspaper going. I (Brittney Lofthouse) will be withdrawing all the funds and will be gifting them to Betsey at one time.
