During the month of June, small business and community favorite Majano's Coffee was shut down by the City of Pasadena. Although not a food purveyor, the city felt it necessary to classify their beautiful handbuilt coffee trailer as a food truck, and therefore was exposed to the regulations required for cooking food. Although they do not make any food, they have been since forced to close and are now required to rebuild as a full food truck if they wish to resume their community friendly shop.

We are asking for donations to help the Majano's rebuild their business and continue to provide the wonderful service that only a small family owned business can. Donations will be used for the purchase of a food truck that can meet the necessary food preparation regulations (even though they do not offer cooked food) to resume their operations.

Majanos Coffee is a small family owned business that does not have the financial ability to absorb the severity of this penalty. We recognize the importance of health and safety regulations, but from time to time, these regulations are not applied in an appropriate manner, and they can be crushing to independent businesses. The sad reality is that we if allow our small businesses to falter, this limits our environment to the control of chains and large corporate owned businesses that have neither the interest nor the ability to be truly part of a community.
