Save Martinez Shelter Dogs from Euthanasia
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Danielle. I am a volunteer for a group advocating for shelter dogs known as Saving CCAS Dogs United. We have been saving dogs from the Martinez shelter (CCAS) who would have been euthanized due to the animal overpopulation crisis (too many puppies being born, not enough homes for all of them, nowhere near enough affordable spay and neuter options for the average pet owner to prevent this from happening in the first place, irresponsible owners abandoning their dogs or surrendering them to the shelter, and having only one shelter for the entire Contra Costa County which has a population of 1.1 million residents.) These factors are causing healthy, adoptable animals to lose their lives. The shelter has only so much space and they are overwhelmed with so many dogs coming in. Recently, the shelter received 52 new stray dogs over the course of just two days! Sadly, they have to make room for the new dogs that are constantly coming in.
We are doing everything we can to save as many dogs from euthanasia as possible by marketing them online to try to find fosters and adopters. We have saved many dogs from euthanasia so far, week after week.
How can you help? We need money to help with veterinary bills for these sweet dogs in need, money for boarding fees, and money for supplies for fosters such as dog beds and crates. Sometimes, a foster will step up to save a dog’s life, but then back out shortly after, and we have to put the dog in privately owned boarding kennels to keep them alive and safe until another home can be found. The most common reason is that the foster’s other dog doesn’t get along with the new dog. Some rescue dogs require boarding pending spay/neuter surgery or transport. We have been successful at finding homes for our rescue dogs in boarding, as well as finding breed specific rescues in other states to take some of our rescue dogs as well. I began volunteering in June, and in that time we have found homes for many of our dogs in boarding, including Reno, Callie, Kio, Sven, Kristoff, Coco, Friar Tuck , Saturn, Pepper, Maggie, Branton, and Osaka. (Essen, Apolda, Berlin, Jafar, Ace, Sally, and Daisy Earls were all sent to a German Shepherd rescue out of state, after spending some time in boarding awaiting transport.)
The dogs that are currently in boarding are Marty, Mrs. Chippy, Caesar, Lady, Doris, Daisy, Evander, Conroy, Madonna, Betsy, Honey, Rocky, Strudel, and Cornelius. Please help us help THEM!
We have been doing car wash fundraisers, bake sales, etc. but just can’t keep up with these costs by ourselves.
We don’t have our nonprofit 501c3 yet, so we are not able to offer tax deductions for your donations right now. Please donate anyway, if you are able to. Thank you!
