On Thursday, October 4, 2018, Mary was called to come in to her surgeon's office after a breast self-exam revealed a lump in one of her breasts. The surgeon said those words that every person hopes to never hear, "you have cancer". Mary is 37. She is a single mom to two little boys. She is self-employed. She is too young to be facing this disease, but no one told the breast cancer that, so we fight. Mary's shop is relatively new and doesn't have a large enough clientele to support the costs of health insurance, so Mary took a chance on her young age and good health and didn't purchase the insurance. Her shop is also not able to afford her the luxury of sick leave or family time off. This is where we come in. Mary needs our help. She's one of the toughest people I know and will fight this diagnosis with all she has, but in the mean time, she has to let go of some of the reigns and allow friends and family to step in and help her keep things going.
