Save McNulty Place

Donation protected
On November 2nd, 2020, tragedy struck in our parents’ (Dom and Gail) and their two closest neighbours’ backyards when a sudden earth slide ripped through McNulty Place in South St. Vital, causing a 16 foot drop from their yards toward the river bank. After going through the municipal, provincial, and federal governments for some type of answer over the last few months, they were ultimately told that there would be zero relief provided. To add insult to injury, their insurance providers have denied claims to any homeowners living on this cove, chalking it up to the known risk of erosion when living on the river. But this was no river bank erosion---this was a massive landslide unlike anything we’ve ever seen before (the photos speak for themselves). After speaking with experts in the field, my parents were told that to repair their yard alone, the cost will be upwards of $200,000---requiring everything from geo-tech engineer consulting, to emergency repairs, rip rap and future erosion stability work, and then attempting to rebuild their property, landscaping, water testing, and the list goes on. As you can imagine, this scenario has been enhanced due to COVID-19 and Dom’s business being mandated to shut down for several months over the past year. It’s been incredibly difficult watching them go through it all.

For those of you who know our parents, you know they are the kindest, most caring, generous people, always opening their door to everyone and lending a helping hand if ever needed. Gail has been involved in the community ever since we were young boys, always helping with school fundraisers, sitting on committees for Cancer Care and other organizations, giving back to charities and always putting everyone before herself. She is a giver and a well known beauty in our city. Dom is the owner of VQ Salon on Corydon and is always donating products for wedding socials, events, and fundraisers, always on his own dime never expecting anything in return.

We are making this Go Fund Me as some type of relief for the upfront payments of the surveying and engineer reports that they have already paid for. The land value on their home has quite literally been wiped away. We are grateful that no person or animal was hurt when the shift occurred, as it happened within mere seconds and that would have been so much worse. We’re making our goal $50,000 to help fundraise and provide a little relief for my parents during this tough time. Please share and donate if you can. Anything helps!

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
