Save Meadow View: A Piece of Cabarrus History

Friends of Cabarrus County and Beyond,

Most of you who are reading this are probably somewhat familiar with the Historic Cabarrus Association. We are not just a repository of old photographs and Cabarrus memorabilia. While preserving and sharing history remains in our stated mission, we strive to be an active advocate of historic preservation, including properties.

Over the past few years, the board of Historic Cabarrus Association has worked with Niblock Homes, the City of Concord, and various community partners and non-profits to preserve the Meadow View School. The Meadow View School is the last "standing" African American schoolhouse built in the 1890s in Cabarrus County. Architecturally, Meadow View is very similar to the structure of Rosenwald Schools with ceiling-to-floor windows, though the school predates the era by nearly two decades. As of November 2024, a plot of land has been approved for Meadow View to begin the process of relocation and rebuilding.

About Us:

Historic Cabarrus Association, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed in 1973 by local citizens who were passionate about the preservation and restoration of the Historic 1876 Cabarrus County Courthouse. The original Board of Directors, along with the originators of the Old Courthouse Theatre, were responsible for saving this wonderful historic treasure from demolition.

The mission of Historic Cabarrus Association, Inc. is to preserve, protect, and promote Cabarrus County history through preservation advocacy, innovative educational programs, and strategic partnerships.
