Save MI Kei: Support Legal Battle for Michigan's Kei Trucks

Save MI Kei: raising funds to to legally defend Kei truck ownership in Michigan.
With many Kei owners recently having had their vehicles unlawfully retitled from road-worthy vehicles to off-road-only 4-wheelers by the State of Michigan, this GoFundMe serves to gather funds to bring suit against the State to protect Kei truck ownership in Michigan. Kei trucks, vans, and other Kei vehicles imported through appropriate channels that have been issued valid titles should be able to remain on the road.
The State has retitled these vehicles citing safety and emissions concerns for mini trucks: an entirely different category of vehicle from Kei trucks. Mini trucks, like the Tiger Truck, are designed and intended exclusively for off-road use, with a 25mph speed restriction, often lacking the safety and emissions standards required of road-worthy vehicles. By contrast, the Kei trucks we are fighting to protect constitute a special class of small vehicles specifically engineered for on-road use in Japan. These trucks meet all of Japan's safety, emissions, and size regulations, some of the strictest in the world.
Under the 25-year exemption rule established by the Import Vehicle Safety Act of 1988, these Kei trucks, once 25 years or older, should be considered eligible for use on public roads in the US, as would any classic vehicle. The money from this GoFundMe will go directly to retaining legal council by means of The Rubinstein Law Firm, and their attorney Kevin Burton, Esq. a Kei enthusiast and Michigan lawyer, to fight for Michigan Kei truck owners to regain the clean titles they deserve, as well as protecting future Kei owners’ right to own these exceptional vehicles.
