Save Mohammed’s heart and give him a normal life
Mohammed is a 3-year-old boy, born with an abnormality in his heart called Tetralogy of Fallot. He lives with his twin sister in Kaduna Nigeria.
He comes from a very poor background. At 3 years of age he weighs only 6kg which is the expected weight of a 6 month old baby. He cannot walk or talk like his twin sister, because his heart is using all it's energy to keep his body alive. He needs daily medications and a special diet to build up his weight.
Tetralogy of Fallot is a combination of four abnormalities of the heart and it's blood vessels. As a result of this there are low levels of oxygen in the blood with delayed growth and development. These low oxygen levels are apparent in the blueness of his lips and hands. If left untreated his condition will worsen and he will continue to have a poor quality of life and an early death. Surgery is the only effective treatment for his condition.
He is being managed by the tertiary cardiology center in Shika, Nigeria and they have estimated the cost of surgical treatment to be 6 million Naira which is equivalent to 10,000 pounds.
In the first instance he needs to build up his weight on a special diet and have regular reviews at the cardiology center with the cardiology team, nutritionist and liaison with the cardiothoracic surgeons.
His family are struggling to afford the transport fees to the centre (which are the equivalent of 2 pounds) to take him for his appointments. Any amount donated will go a long way in easing their financial burden and help with his treatment.
Your donations will help
- Buy food items for the special diet
- Pay the hospital bills
- Pay the cost of the surgery and rehabilitation
We will provide accountability for how all the money is spent through receipts and a photo journal. You can follow his story on the YouTube channel ‘Mohammed’s heart journey’.
If we can get 100 people to donate 10 pounds each, we can raise that first 1000 pounds. However, no amount is too little so please help Mohammed have a healthy heart and give him a better quality of life. Every donation counts!
