Save Morgan Buyaki Life

Donation protected
Hi I am April and Morgan is my daughter. It is a very humbling experience to beg for my daughters life.
She has been diagnosed with an extremely rare vascular disease E.G.P.A which is fatal untreated. The life saving medication is NUCALA an injection of 300ml once a month. Seems simple …But that injection costs between $7200.00-$10,000.00 per month ($2400.00-$3200.00 PER each ml ) !?! How? Why?   To watch my child suffer and die when I know there is medication but it is impossible to afford.
We are Canadian ( born & raised here for generations paying huge taxes) and our health care system is supposed to help in cases such as this. NUCALA is on the list of approved drugs coverage in Canada. Her doctors have filled out the forms & applied repeatedly and finally they conceded to cover only 100mg of the 300mg she needs and say we are responsible for the remaining 200mg. At a cost of $2400.00-$3200.00 PER each 100mg this is not possible and completly unaffordable!!! I don’t understand why the government is letting her die.
  •    I appeal to the Canadian govt, the politicians of my country the people in positions of power to save her life. Ex I appeal to Gsk the manufacturer of this drug for help - is there a trial, some type of support for those who can’t afford or a type of grant?
  • Lastly I appeal to anyone out there that can help raise funds for her prescription, (this is the hardest). We are all struggling to live in this economy and it is so hard to ask. If you have no extra I understand but could you flood those in power and Gsk with petitions, and requests to not let my child die! No average family could afford this life saving medication- and no Canadian citizen should be denied life saving medication due to the extremely high cost. Or have to watch a loved one die knowing if you were Rich they would survive.
  • * Information on E.G.P.A. - Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) Overall, without treatment, survival rate in EGPA is about 25%. With treatment, the survival rate is 90% The principal causes of morbidity and mortality in EGPA are myocarditis and myocardial infarction secondary to coronary arteritis. Other causes of death associated with EGPA include the following: * Renal failure * Cerebral hemorrhage * Gastrointestinal bleeding * Status asthmaticus (Status asthmaticus is considered a medical emergency. It is the extreme form of an asthma exacerbation that can result in hypoxemia, hypercarbia, and secondary respiratory failure.) After receiving treatment it can go into complete remission!
  •  About Morgan She is 23 years old kind hearted to a fault. An extreme animal lover and raises funds for a senior dog shelter. Any stray comes home with her always has! She is a writer and can make any story interesting, has a wicked sense of humour & sharp wit. At 10yrs old she joined the towns acting troupe ( the next youngest was 38 yrs old) They were amazed at her maturity and the responsibility she could handle. This was an adult dinner theatre group and Morgan memorized not only her lines but the entire script. Also the strongest person I know and worries more about the toll her illness takes on me then herself. She never gives up and she has lived through more pain & suffering in the last couple years then most do in a lifetime. EGPA attacks so many organs as it is a disease of the blood vessels & vascular system which our entire body is composed of. She is basically bed bound, has no social life. She has had kidney stones 4 times in the last 2 years. As it is autoimmune she also suffers terrible infections and pain. Has had MRSA, STAPH, EZBL. She has to use a walker and oxygen, has frequent vomiting and issues with liver, kidneys, & heart. Beyond the pain is the struggle to breathe, for her the effects on her lungs are the worst. Something as simple as turning over in bed leaves her gasping for air. Like she is drowning on land. She has horrible nightmares that she is suffocating, and sleeps sitting up. This is just a small part of what she suffers . Please if you have any questions contact me. As a mother I am terrified each time I check on her that I will find her dead. I struggle to write this and put into words what our family lives & what Morgan goes through. We were watching Jonny Depp talk about being a part of the make a wish foundation- I asked her out of curiosity what her biggest dream is - her answer brought me to tears for it’s simplicity. “ Oh mom I would love to be healthy enough to get a job working at Tim Hortons!” All she wants is a life ! Thank you for taking time to read this - all funds will be used to purchase her prescription of NUCALA injections #SaveMorgansLife
