Save Murphy's Leg!

Donation protected
Hi, We are Banyan Restorations in Memphis, TN, and we are fundraising to save this little girl's leg! A little backstory: This girl was either born a stray or abandoned (likely abandoned because of her sweet temperament) in the Binghampton neighborhood of Memphis, TN.

On Monday, November 29th, Craig Strickland, the shop owner found her laying right outside the door. He walked in with her and shouted, “Hey guys, look what I found!” She tried to run to all of us, but we all noticed she was lame in her right leg. She was also a bit on the thin side.

Not knowing what to do as the Humane Society was closed that Monday because of the Thanksgiving holiday, we immediately took her to the vet to see if she was chipped. She was not chipped. We called the Memphis Animal Services organization, and they came to pick her up. The next morning, we all had a pow wow, because we didn’t feel optimistic about her being adopted with a lame right leg.

We called the Memphis Animal Services organization back and asked if we could take her back and try and take care of her leg. They told us that they keep her for 72 hours and post her on the missing dogs section of their website, to see if any owner would claim her. No one claimed her and no one pre-adopted her after 72 hours.

Well, we decided we would adopt her as a team. We would all take care of her at the shop during the day, and William Morton (one of our carpenters) and the Morton Family would take her at night and on the weekends and legally adopt her.

The reason for this fundraiser is while the dog was at Animal Services, they did an X-Ray of her leg and found that she had a fracture in a very unfortunate place on her right leg. We called a pet orthopedic surgeon in Memphis and he told us that to repair the leg, it will require that she get surgery and have plates put in. The other option is to amputate the leg, but we all agreed that because of her age (about 1 year old), the best option for her would be to keep the leg, do the surgery, and not amputate. He told us the surgery would cost $4500. We are trying to raise the money to keep her leg and welcome her to the Banyan Family!
