Save Ocean View Bar and Grill!

Because of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, on March 16, Mayor Garcetti ordered the closure of all dine in restaurants in LA City. Since then, Alissa's Ocean View Bar and Grill in Montrose has been closed. Because of this sudden and unexpected closure, our revenues are now at zero.

Some of our regulars might remember that we just recently suffered another sudden closure in January because of an unexpected plumbing issue. A lot of the financial burden of that plumbing disaster ended up being on Alissa and I as the owners and we were just starting to climb out of that hole when the coronavirus scares hit, so we were not in the best financial position to handle a blow like this.

The complete disappearance of our income has made it impossible for us to pay for even just the rent and the existing payroll expenses. We have 20 hard-working employees who are all going without their paychecks for work that they've already put in for us because all of our money has already been spent trying to keep us from getting evicted.

If you can donate anything, I want to make sure you know that the money is not for us to make any kind of personal profit. We are simply trying to pay our employees what we already owe them and gather enough rent and minimal operating funds to be able to continue to support the community with those 20 jobs once we are allowed to reopen. The plan is to put the funds toward paying our employees their paychecks that are due to them for this last pay period and then pay the cost of rent for the time that we are closed so that we can return to work once we are re-opened. I will withdraw any funds from this campaign and deposit them directly into the business account for these purposes so that it never hits our personal accounts for any personal uses.

Ocean View Bar and Grill has been a very personal labor of love for me and Alissa. Some of you may know that Alissa grew up in a home two exits down the freeway. When I first started dating her 15 years ago I picked her up from that house, and we spent a ton of our time in the shopping park in Montrose eating and shopping and falling in love. In a very personal way, running this restaurant has been like coming home for us. Since we took over 3 years ago, Alissa and I have been proud to build on Ocean View's long-standing reputation and make it a place for everyone in the community to call home and to feel taken care of.

This crisis is unlike anything we've seen in either of our lifetimes. And of course, we know we're all just doing our best to try to get by. But if you have any means to help us out in just trying to get through to the other side of this crisis, Alissa and I could really use the good will. We are proud people and we don't ask for help lightly. But our means of helping ourselves at the moment is very limited because without being able to operate, we have no income. So anything you can spare is appreciated, and God willing, we can bring Ocean View Bar and Grill through this storm to once again serve the community we love on the other side.
