Save Opal: Surgery for a Loving Kitty
Donation protected
I’m asking for donations to cover medical costs for our sweet kitty Opal. She just received a diagnosis of intestinal cancer and needs surgery as soon as possible. Your help will go towards the testing we’ve had to complete, her invasive surgery, vet stay after the surgery, any medications and follow up appointments.
About 1-2 months ago, Opal began noticeably losing weight and started throwing up more consistently. It was noticeable because Opal has always been a petite cat. The first vet we took her to completely wrote off our concerns and told us to just feed her more. We monitored her weight for a little bit before taking her to a different vet. They took our concerns much more seriously and prescribed an appetite stimulant along with antinausea. The medication helped Opal gain some of her muscle mass back, however it didn’t address the underlying concern of what was causing the issues. On the 29th of July, we took her in for an ultrasound, a mass was found on the outside of her intestines. It’s confirmed to be cancer. The concern was that it could’ve spread to her lymph nodes. The vet completed a needle test and notified us that if it had not spread the option was surgery. It’s invasive and requires her to stay at the vet for a few days after due to the possible complications that can arise afterwards. Although I have lost other beloved pets to cancer, I have never had one this young.
Opal just turned 2 years old in the beginning of July. I have raised her since she was 12 weeks old along with her littermate/sister Raven. They are a bonded pair who have a hard time opening up to new people. Raven is very protective of her sister Opal, especially when she isn’t feeling her best. They both started out as fosters but as many cat lovers know, black cats are hard to adopt out. Although Opal could’ve been scooped up by a loving home, separating Opal and Raven was NOT an option. Having each other makes them more confident, they have really opened up and Opal has turned into the loving lap cat I always knew she was. She and her sister are special kitties who steal the hearts of those they open up to.
Opal is goofy and playful along with her loving nature. She’ll do anything for a treat and loves any type of feather toy. She’s a catnip addict and loves chasing her sister through kitty tunnels.
Any amount of donations will be greatly appreciated. If you are unable to donate please share Opal’s story. She is an amazing kitty and deserves to live a happy, healthy, and long life with her sister Raven. We love her so much, please help us get her the care she needs.
If you’d like to send gifts to our Opal (and other kitties) in another way, we also have an Amazon Wish List.
Thank you in advance for all of your help!
