Help 15 Yr Old. L.A. Barber College from Closing

L.A. Barber College, a minority-owned DTLA Trade School that has provided a career to barbers for more than 15 years, faces closing its doors forever due to Covid-19

Los Angeles, CA – L.A. Barber College, which has maintained a strong community bond and presence in Downtown Los Angeles’ Broadway street for more than 15 years, is in danger of closing its doors forever due to COVID-19. Owners, Jose and Blanca Polanco, have provided an opportunity to those looking to find purpose and a career in the highly coveted field of Barbering, but have been closed for nearly six months, due to the pandemic.

"In 2020, a student still cannot earn a barber's license online,” said owners Jose and Blanca Polanco. “If we go out of business, it’s not just our livelihood, it’s hundreds of people who cannot move forward with their careers. While other trades and trade students can still pursue accreditation virtually online in these trying times, barbers cannot. If we cannot reopen our doors, that is a death sentence for us and future students looking to pursue a career as barbers.”

The family-run business has helped hundreds of students become successful and licensed barbers, earning four-years of “Best on Yelp.”

LA Barber College is also fully entrenched in giving back to the community, regularly offering dozens of its students to cut hair free of charge at community events for Veterans Affairs, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Los Angeles Angels, MacArthur Park Back 2 School and Long Beach Back 2 School events, providing haircuts at rehabilitation and detention centers, and Broadway’s Night on Broadway (with video coverage on social media channels and Youtube of students lined up in the streets giving haircuts).

To remain closed any longer without funding, may not be an option. Any amount donated will help support the immediate needs ahead. We are beyond appreciative of our students and all who are waiting for our doors to open! We look forward to securing a Re-Open Date, as early as we are allowed. Thank You All, in advance for your contributions, friends, and partners of Los Angeles!
