Hello everyone! They say bad things come in threes, and I'm inclined to agree. Over the past three months, three of our pets have required sudden, extensive, and expensive medical care. The first of which drained our funds, and maxed out our CareCredit card, with two more surgeries still in the immediate future.
The trouble started when Riker (orange tabby), needed a near-total dental extraction due to advanced feline stomatitis. His surgery was the last week of May, and he ended up losing all his teeth except his canines. The cost of the extraction was $2000, which we were able to cover via CareCredit and the generosity of family members.
Just before Riker's surgery, we noticed that our other cat, Inky, was limping without any evidence of trauma, and it was determined that he had a fractured hip due to "slipped capital physis", an uncommon condition in young male cats where the connective bone of the hip joint doesn't form properly. The primary method of treatment is a procedure where they basically cut off the ball part of the ball-and-socket and let the muscles keep the leg in place.
Inky's surgery is scheduled for next wednesday (the 14th) and estimated at $1,100-1,300 (with the potential for him needing the same thing done on the other side in the future), which we... don't have, but also cannot afford to put off because he will continue to be in constant pain until they can remove the damaged bone.
And that should have been the end of it, until Alfredo (white bunbun) decided to give us a scare by refusing to eat for two days. We rushed him to the vet on Friday (the 9th) and found out that he's got a pathological fracture to his jaw from his chronic teeth problems. His vet said he'll probably need surgery, but we don't know to what extent or when, or if it's even feasible for him because he's an older bunny. In the meantime, he has lots of meds, a follow up next friday, and is finally eating pellets again today, yay!
It's all... very overwhelming. We've been to the vet(s) a dozen times in the last month and each new revelation has been bad news piled on more bad news. After Alfredo's last vet visit, I'm down to $100 in my bank account, and Inky needs to keep his surgery appointment, which we've already had to put a sizable deposit down for.
I'm at a loss for what to do other than to reach out to the community for help in raising the funds so my fuzzy children can get the treatment they need. They're my whole world, and it's heartbreaking to see them suffer a day longer than they need to. Any and all contributions are welcome, even if it's just words of support and sharing the link.
I've set the initial goal at $3,000, which will cover Inky's surgery as well as a portion of the bills we've incurred so far, and I will update it if necessary once we know more about Alfredo's medical situation.
Thank you for your kindness and support.
