Opal22 Arts and Edutainment are asking you to help us bring the stories of the Cast Paintings to life. These 18th Century painting hold the history of racial classifications created in pictorial form within them.
They are the first form of human taxonomy created through colonisation as a way to keep everyone in there place, dependent on your racial mix.
The paintings hold a fantastic incite into the issues of racism and conscious and unconscious biases that we live by today.
Over the next two years we will be running a collection of experiences that will connect contemporary issues of race and identity to those developed through colonisation. We will aim to break down some of the issues of unconscious bias by analysing how they initially come about in the first place.
We are asking for your help to make this happen, so we can create an amazing package of experiences, which will end on a exhibition and documentary in August 2023 that will bring together people from all backgrounds in one space to have the difficult conversations that are needed in today’s climate.
