ABOUT CAMP WO-ME-TO

Camp Wo-Me-To, (Camp Women and Men of Tomorrow), began in 1952 as a children’s mission camp owned and operated by the Womans Missionary Union of Maryland/Delaware.  The name reflects our dedication to continuing to provide a community through which you can participate in the Great Commission of reaching and ministering to everyone in the name of Jesus, helping them grow in their understanding of Christian faith.

We’ve grown over time to include men and women’s ministries, youth and family retreats, and continue to grow in our commitment to Christian development and our desire to share the hope of Jesus Christ.

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”  Matthew 28:19-20

Located in Jarrettsville, Maryland, our name – Wo-Me-To – stands for “Women and Men of Tomorrow.”  Historically this idea has given focus to our vision of providing mission education for girls and boys, women and men, which will prepare them to do future missions work.

Camp Wo-Me-To is dedicated to God. Our mission began by serving children, introducing them to a loving God, His Son and His Word. Then preparing them to share that love with a world in need of hope. Since 1952, the facilities have been used to nurture the spiritual development of His people, to encourage participation in missions, and to increase appreciation and responsibility for His world.

In the following 68 years, many people (young and old) have had a chance to meet a loving God while spending time on these beautiful grounds. We know that Camp Wo-Me-To has touched a lot of lives over the years and countless souls have been saved on these grounds.  A lot of people have met a loving Savior here. We also know how blessed we have been to form lasting relationships with our guests. The friendships, fellowship, laughter, joy, prayers and tears we’ve shared are precious and enduring in our hearts – we are beyond thankful.

HEARTFELT WORDS FROM OUR GUESTS

In these troubling times, testimonials from our beloved guests keep us hopeful as we struggle to stay afloat through the COVID pandemic…

Camp Wo-Me-To has a special place in my heart from when I was a camper, and now as a youth leader bringing in our students. This wonderful staff works hard to accommodate guests which allows out leaders and campers to keep their focus on the Lord.

–– Matt Topscott, Youth Leader, Epic Community Church

Camp Wo-Me-To staff shows God’s love to my group each and every year. They are so welcoming and compassionate towards us, and they take wonderful care of all their facilities. I think God for them every year!

–– Alex Bagnara, Director of Christian Education, St. Pauls’s Middle School

We have held our Fall retreat at Camp Wo-Me-To for the past several years. The staff have always gone out of their way to make sure everything runs smoothly. The facilities are well maintained with plenty of activities for the down time.

AND NOW, WE ARE CALLING FOR YOUR HELP

Due to the unleashing of a pandemic in our world, we were forced to cancel a majority of our reservations and close our camp since March of 2020.  While the guidelines for reopening continue to shift, we have been forced to cancel all activities for the remainder of the year.  This has become a financial crisis for Camp Wo-Me-To.

There are still costs to maintaining the camp even during a shutdown. These costs include utilities, business insurance, unexpected storm damage and consequent repairs, maintenance to the 26 buildings on the property to keep them from deteriorating, and payroll. In addition, we needed to repair the septic system for the Fellowship Hall (which we were able to do temporarily) and it will need to be replaced in the near future. Most recently, we've been unable to make payroll, causing us to furlough some of our staff.

The projections for being back to business as usual with full reservations have shifted to the new year 2021 (assuming we will have clear guidelines and clearance to operate at our usual capacity). This new reality will leave us with essentially no income for almost an entire year and will severely impact our ability to remain open for future retreats. However, we remain joyful knowing that God is not surprised and has control over all of this!

In an effort to keep this camp alive for years to come during this challenging time, we’re publicly asking for donations.

So now we’re turning to YOU – our friends, families and community – for donations.  Please consider helping us in this time of need, so that we can still be here in the future to assist others in their times of spiritual need and growth. We appreciate any amount you’re willing to give.

OUR WAY OF SAYING “THANK YOU”

As a token of gratitude for donating and supporting our mission, we will give you a free digital copy of our Wilderness Survival Guide. This guide details 10 essentials to survive in the outdoors. Written by Frank Ulmer, an active Scout Leader, avid adventurer, and resident manager here at Camp Wo-Me-To; this guide is extremely helpful for you and your loved ones to be prepared and safe in the outdoors.

We appreciate your continued prayers and support as we continue to serve as Christ’s hands and feet here on earth!

God Bless.
