Save our English Electric Lightning F.6 XR770
Our English Electric Lightning F.6 XR770 was manufactured in 1965. The plane served for 22 years with; 74 Squadron, 23 Squadron, 56 Squadron and 5 Squadron, before being struck off charge from the Royal Air Force in 1988. The plane then resided to RAF Waddington before the RAF Manston History Museum acquired it in 2015.
The plane has been a static exhibit, however its age has begun to take a toll upon its structural integrity. This is particularly concerning the planes undercarriage and lack of operative breaks. Therefore, in order to maintain the Lightnings structure and further preservation we need to raise funds. We aim to increase the planes stability and make the cockpit accessible for all generations so that we can continue to educate and pass on our history.
