Update September 30, 2022: all donations are used strictly to pay for legal fees incurred from our successful action against Rotary Camps and Services at their GO-REC facility.

What was our statement?

Events and Places of Public Assembly are not allowed in this area per the East Bay Township Zoning Ordinance. They run contrary to our district's low-intensity, rural, natural preservation intent and future land use plan.

In 2002, The Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy and the Rotary Camps and Services voluntarily signed a Conservation Easement and recorded the deed on the property. Save Forest Lakes, Inc. believes that the Conservation Easement values and intent are not being enforced and seek enforcement.

About Us and Our Mission

 

We are Save Forest Lakes – a Michigan Non-Profit LLC established to help preserve the Forest Lakes area in Grand Traverse County, Mi, that will be forever changed if citizens do not pay attention at this critical time.

 

We are a group of concerned citizens looking to protect the peace, safety, and natural wonder of the Forest Lakes area. We are private citizens, conservationists, former Boy Scouts, local business owners, and neighboring property owners.

 

We support GOREC's use of the former Scout Camp as a local resource that enables outdoor education and access. No one is opposed to responsibly sharing our lakes or GOREC offering classes, camping, trail access, and quiet day-use recreational activities. Everyone agrees that these are good things.

We ask that the property be used in a way that is respectful to our lakes, environment, people, and most importantly, our shared future.
