The Prince of Wales Story
Pennal: the land of Dragons, Poets, Singers and a legendary Warrior Prince.
Pennal has deep historical connections with the Prince of Wales, Owain Glyndwr, when over 6 centuries ago, Owain Glyndwr sent out the famous Pennal Letter to the King of France, Charles the 6th asking for assistance to save his country, his language and culture to help him in his rebellion against English rule.
The Prince of Wales, Owain Glyndwr, unfortunately, was not successful in his quest, help from France never came or history as we know it could have been very different.
He was never captured, and there is no known grave, but they do say he is like King Arthur, just sleeping and waiting for a call to help his beloved community again.
The only native Prince of Wales has become a martyr in Welsh history, he was a man well before his time and our village is so proud to have been part of his legacy.
Although Owain Glyndwr may no longer be here in body, we want to embody and channel his courage in what he believed in. His spirit has given this small community the strength to reach out with its own cry for help in saving the thriving hub of this historical village.
We believe it is time to create Pennal Letter #2.
As a result, we are reaching out to our local residents and to anyone with Welsh connections from all over the world for help in saving our village community pub, Glan yr Afon.
We are now faced with the daunting task of raising £450,000 to help save the pub.
This is why we are turning to you to ask for support in the form of our ‘Pennal letter #2’!
To safeguard this historical building and historical location, and ensuring a legacy which has played a vital role in Welsh History for generations.
Secure the Glan yr Afon building & existing business (and continue to operate), refurbish and adapt the property to create a multi-functional community enterprise, including: redeveloping the accommodation (with up to 9 bedrooms) and establishing a community cafe and shop in the unused outbuilding at the rear of the property.
To focus on being flexible, and inclusive and ensuring we embrace every member of the Pennal community. This includes creating opportunities for increasing participation in local democracy and responding activity to the climate and biodiversity emergencies through partnership working.
The local community has set up a social enterprise fund (‘Menter Y Glan’) with the aim of securing all factors necessary to make this venture a viable and exciting future. We can’t wait to do this with you by our side!
We need your help so please help our village by donating today!

Chwech canrif yn ol gofynnodd Owain Glyndwr am gymorth wrth ysgrifennu’r llythyr hanesyddol - Llythyr Pennal. Heddiw, rydym yn gofyn am gymorth unwaith eto.
Mae gan Pennal gysylltiadau cryf gydag Owain Glyndwr, sef Tywysog Cymru chwech canrif yn ol.
Ysgrifennodd Owain y llythyr enwog, Llythyr Pennal, i Brenin Ffrainc Siarl y 6ed. Ynddo, gofynodd am gymorth i achub ei wlad a choncro Brenin Lloegr, Harri’r 4ydd, oedd yn ceisio trechu ei wlad, ei iaith
a’i diwylliant.
Yn anffodus, nid oedd Owain Glyndwr yn llwyddiannus, ond ni gafodd ei ddal. Does ychwaith ddim bedd, ac yn ol yr hanes, mae’n yn aros i atgyfodi a chynorthwyo ei wlad unwaith eto.
Mae dewrder a chryfder Owain Glyndwr yn dylanwadu ar ysbryd y gymuned wrth i ni geisio achub canolfan llewyrchus a phrysur ein pentref.

Ffocysu ar fod yn hyblyg a chynhwysol wrth sicrhau ein bod yn cynnwys pob un aelod o gymuned Pennal. Mae hyn yn cynnwys creu cyfleoedd i bawb gymryd rhan mewn democratiaeth lleol ac ymateb i weithgareddau argyfwng hinsawdd.
Mae’r gymuned wedi creu cronfa gyda’r nod o gyrraedd y targed er mwyn dyfodol sicrhau dyfodol cyffrous i’r Glan.
